Submission Terms & Usage Rights

"What Happens to Your Submission"

When you submit an essay to Heroine's Salon, here's what you're agreeing to:

If Your Essay is Selected

You get:

  • $50 if you're a paid Substack subscriber

  • 3-Month “Call for Heroine’s” subscription if you’re a free Substack subscriber

  • Free salon attendance

  • Digital copy of the anthology in which your submission appears

  • Links to your website/Substack/bio in all forms of publication

  • Visibility and promotion through our Substack Notes & Social Media channels

We publish your work in these ways:

  • In our monthly "Salon Stories" Substack post (full text, with your byline)

  • In our semi-annual anthology (print and digital, after editing, with your byline)

  • Referenced during the live salon recording (which goes on YouTube)

  • Portions and quotes may be used to provide you further visibility in our Substack Posts and Substack Notes

  • Your work may be referenced (with attributed credit) in podcast interviews with Lisa-Marie

You retain copyright. Your essay remains yours. We're asking for non-exclusive rights to publish it in the contexts above. You can publish it elsewhere, include it in your own collections, or do whatever you want with it.

We expect you to:

  • Attend the full 90-minute salon (not just your segment)

  • Promote the salon to your audience

  • Share the Youtube recording after publication

If Your Essay Isn't Selected

You get:

  • A free ticket to the Salon for the month of your submission

  • Visibility and promotion through our Substack Notes & Social Media channels

We publish your work in these ways:

  • Possibly referenced during the private salon session

  • Portions and quotes may be used to provide you further visibility in our Substack Posts and Substack Notes

  • Your work may be referenced (with attributed credit) in podcast interviews with Lisa-Marie

You retain copyright. Your essay remains yours. We're asking for non-exclusive rights to publish it in the contexts above. You can publish it elsewhere, include it in your own collections, or do whatever you want with it.

We expect you to:

  • No expectations! But the community benefits if you share your work.

What We Don't Do With Your Work

  • Sell it to third parties

  • Use it in paid products without additional agreement

  • Claim authorship or ownership

  • Modify it substantially without your approval

Anthology Editing

If your piece is selected for the semi-annual anthology, we may request heavier editing for consistency across the collection. You'll work with the Salon to edit for approval for inclusion.

Withdrawal

If you need to withdraw your submission after acceptance but before publication, contact us immediately. Once published in "Salon Stories," we can't unpublish, but we can discuss removing from anthology if needed.
